After failing to secure a medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics last year, Filipino star gymnast Carlos Yulo has redeemed himself big in the ongoing 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

On Monday, Yulo captured his fifth gold after winning the men’s high bar and men’s vault at the 31st Southeast Asian Games artistic gymnastics competition at the Quan Nga Sports Palace.

A day earlier, Yulo won three of his other gold medals.

Aside from the three golds, Yulo also won two silvers to hike his medal haul to seven.

The five gold medal performance is sweet for Yulo since he only got two golds in the 2019 SEA Games, ironically held in the Philippines.

The gold Yulo got in the rings is also special for Yulo since he only placed second in the event in 2019.

It can be recalled that Yulo was expected to win a medal in the Olympics due to his high world ranking, but sadly he failed to win any award in the biggest sports competition in the world.

While feeling down about his Olympic performance, Yulo used his failure as motivation, resulting in a fantastic performance in this year’s SEA Games.
