Don’t call him Kanye, just Ye
October 19, 2021 - Tuesday 6:10 PM by Leslie Ordinario
American rapper and singer-songwriter Kanye Omari West officially changed his name to "Ye."
A Los Angeles judge granted the Grammy-winning rapper and producer's name change request. His name no longer has a middle or last name.
In September 2018, he tweeted: "The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE." He also released an album by the same name that year.
On the other hand, he explained the meaning of his new name and why he liked it in a radio interview.
"I believe 'ye' is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means you. So it's I'm you, I'm us, it's us," said Ye in a radio interview that year.
"So I'm you, I'm us, it's us. It went from Kanye, which means 'the only one,' to just Ye - just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything." He added.
Ye filed the request back in August 2021 citing, "personal reasons."
