Asi Taulava will suit up for NLEX this upcoming 2021 PBA Governors' Cup.

The Road Warriors have included the 6-foot-9 center in their 15-man roster, making him the oldest active player in the league at 48 years old

"For his age, he’s in tip-top shape," said NLEX coach Yeng Guiao in a statement posted on the team's official website. "If he can hold his own for five, six minutes a game, that’s already a contribution."

Taulava, who was directly hired by the Mobiline Phone Pals (now TnT Tropang Giga) in 1999, has been putting all the work into the upcoming import-laden conference.

The NLEX will make its debut on Wednesday against San Miguel, and Guiao believes that the 2003 PBA MVP could also bang his body against six-time MVP June Mar Fajardo.

"We felt the need to have him there because we’re lacking in size. We have two of our players still on their way to recovery from separate injuries and we need that extra big body out there, especially against June Mar Fajardo on Wednesday," he said.

NLEX will be playing without its two big men, with Raul Soyud recovering from his arthroscopic surgery from his knee and Kris Porter still sidelined from his Achilles injury.

Guiao hopes that the team could give a fitting sendoff to Taulava, who hopes to add another ring to his collection after winning his first and only title in the 2003 All-Filipino Cup with TNT.

"If we do good this conference, I think it will serve as a fitting sendoff for Asi because he deserves such tribute," said Guiao.
