Two individuals were arrested during an entrapment by authorities on Friday, including an employee from the Pasig City Hall, over allegations of robbery and extortion.
Before the entrapment operation, a complainant was referred to Atty. Jeronimo Manzanero, Pasig City Hall Administrator. He then sought an in-depth investigation and further police assistance.
Investigations showed that the complainant was applying at the Office of the Building Official due to some lacking documents. The suspect introduced himself as an employee of BPLO and Building Licensing Office who offered to facilitate the speedy completion of the transaction in the processing and application of building permit, occupancy permit, and electrical installation in exchange for P600,000.
In the process, the suspect took the complainant's cellphone number and continuously sent text messages. Intelligence operatives led by Police Major Jose Luis Agurre, led the entrapment operation.
The 47-year-old suspect, a Pasig City Hall (BPLO) employee, was arrested. Recovered from him was a bundle of money amounting to P500.000, composed of 499 pieces of boodle money, one piece dusted marked money, and a cellular phone.
Another was arrested with him, who later committed to becoming a prosecution witness.
The suspect was brought to the Pasig City Police for documentation and fluorescent powder examination at the EPD Crime Laboratory and further referred to Rizal Medical Center for medical examination.
"In the last 3 years, we have started to de-normalize corruption and institutionalize good governance in our local government. A tiring and mostly thankless job, but we guarantee that in the next 3 years, we will push even harder and do even better," Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said.
