Pharmacy and Drive-thru Vaccination Sites launch in Baguio City
January 26, 2022 - Wednesday 4:01 PM by GDM
Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said on Wednesday, Jan 26, that the government's Pharmacy and Drive-thru Vaccination Sites' launch would significantly help the Department of Tourism's (DOT) preparations for the country's possible reopening.
Puyat joined the launch of the program in the country’s summer capital along with Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, National Task Force Against Covid-19 (NTF) Deputy Chief Implementer and Testing Czar Secretary Vince Dizon, Congressman Mark Go, and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong.
The Tourism Secretary mentioned, "Now that we are battling an Omicron surge, we are trying to get ahead of it outside NCR by making booster shots as convenient as possible for everyone. There is no longer a need to join a long queue at a centralized vaccination site. Just come by the participating pharmacies like Watsons or Mercury Drugstore and get a free booster shot while you buy your necessities."
Puyat also looks forward to seeing the initiative administered in other parts of the country in the coming weeks.
The launch took place in Baguio City Convention Center. Alongside, the drive-thru vaccination site is located at the Baguio Athletic Bowl, where the vaccine rollout started. The secretaries conducted the turnover of COVID-19 response logistics to the Baguio City Government and later proceeded to the Watson's Pharmacy in SM Baguio.
Baguio City residents and tourists may also get their COVID-19 booster shots at Watson's Pharmacy and Mercury Drug and may also obtain both vaccination and booster shots at the Baguio Athletic Bowl.
"Congratulations for your hard work in protecting the lifeblood of our industry,", Puyat mentioned as he commended Mayor Magalong and Baguio City officials for the successful attempt to vaccinate its residents.
Guests are welcome to visit Baguio City as long as a negative result of the RT-PCR test or a rapid antigen test conducted within 72 and 24 hours before arrival is presented.
In addition, the option to undergo testing procedures once in the city is provided to travel companions who are 12 to 17 years old – the same requirements should be obtained.
As of this writing, Baguio City has vaccinated 10,305 workers, including tourism staff in hotels and other tourism-related enterprises, whereas 97% of Baguio City's adult population has been fully vaccinated as of Jan 21.
