THE Philippine Olympic Committee general assembly has voted to finalize and enforce the persona non grata tag against Philipi Juico, the Philippines Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA), Wednesday, January 26, 2022.

At least 36 of the 54 national sports associations (NSAs) in the general assembly voted to banish Juico from the POC following his row against Olympian and pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena. Those who voted against Juico included Tokyo Olympics gold medalists Hidilyn Diaz and Jessie Lacuña, the representatives of the Athletes' Commission.

The POC said it was just the following procedure following the NSAs decision.

"There is nothing personal here against Mr. Juico, and anytime EJ and Juico agreed, or EJ withdraws his complaint, the GA can revisit the executive board's decision," said Abrahah Tolentino, the POC president.

Only five NSAs opposed the motion, while 11 NSAs were counted as no votes when they opted not to make any manifestation. Mikee Jaworski, the International Olympic Committee representative to the Philippines, the dance sports and netball NSAs abstained from voting.

It was a double whammy against Juico as the NSAs also supported the executive board's decision regarding Obiena's complaint of harassment against the embattled athletics chief.

Tolentino, however, clarified that Juico could stay as PATAFA president "for other matters but no longer recognized by NSA under the national Olympic committee. "They still have their vice president and secretary-general who can attend POC activities," he added.
