By defeating the University of the Philippines, 2-0, on Saturday at the UP Diliman Baseball Field, Adamson University won its tenth straight UAAP softball championship.
The victory marked the Lady Falcons' 15th triumph in the previous 17 years and their 19th overall.
The hosts of the season also win their first title.
Two home runs separated the two spirited teams in the second inning. Fighting Maroon Danica Aquino could not catch the ball that Jenette Rusia and Alaiza Talisik delivered to left field.
In the seventh inning, with that two-run advantage still in doubt, the defense got to work after Jamming Rasco reached base.
Glory Alonzo, who won the best pitcher award for the season, showed her worth on the mound by blanking the Yankees despite allowing three hits and three walks. The Ladue Falcons defense and eventual Finals MVP Alonzo apologized by leaving four Fighting Maroons on base.
With a home run, a.333 batting average, and a run for the Lady Falcons, Rusia completed her collegiate career. First baseman Remilie Herrero, meanwhile, had nine putouts and played excellent defense.
Genesis Degolacion, a slugger for Ateneo de Manila University, won Rookie of the Year.
