An 80% increase in leptospirosis cases was recorded by Bacolod's City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) in 2022.
Forty-five instances, including 11 deaths, were reported last year, as opposed to 25 cases and six deaths in 2021, according to Dr. Grace Tan, head of CESU.
Patients’ ages range from one to 68, with cases most frequently occurring in those between the ages of 21 and 30.
Barangay Singcang-Airport reported four fatalities, while Mandalagan, Bata, Cabug, Felisa, Taculing, Pahanocoy, and Estefania each reported one death.
The case fatality rate, or the proportion of infected patients who passed away, was 24.4%.
According to the CESU, the victims ignored medical advice or waded into dangerous water.
