Barangay in Alabel, Saranggani to hold plebiscite today

Close to 5,000 voters in an area in the Municipality of Alabel, Sarangani province, will be voting to create a new Barangay today, August 20.

In a statement, the poll body said the 4,960 registered voters are expected to participate in the referendum that will ratify the creation of Barangay New Canaan into a Regular and Distinct Barangay in the said Municipality.

Their area has 11 established precincts and 29 clustered precincts, and 5 voting centers.

The Municipality of Alabel allotted a total of PHP3,376,438.26 for the activity.

Aside from the referendum this month, the poll body will also hold three more plebiscites (two) next month and one in October.

According to acting Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco, for September, the plebiscites will be held in Batangas on September 3 and Maguindanao on September 17.

The activity in Region IV-A (Calabarzon) is to ratify the conversion of the Municipality of Calaca into a Component City with an approved budget of PHP13,710,375.73 from the local government unit (LGU).

The event in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will ratify the division of the Province of Maguindanao into 2 Districts and Independent Provinces, to be known as the Provinces of Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur.

The LGU of the Province of Maguindanao has allocated PHP89,177,012.10 for the activity.

On the other hand, the October 8 plebiscite will be held in Region 8 (Eastern Visayas).

It will ratify the merger of Barangay District 1 with Barangay District 28 and the renaming of Barangay 29 in Ormoc City, Province of Leyte.

The City of Ormoc allotted PHP8,059,541.63 for the plebiscite.
