After he attended the successful groundbreaking of two Super Health Centers in Maasin, Iloilo and Kalibo, Aklan on Saturday, January 21, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go proceeded to likewise personally witness the groundbreaking of the Super Health Center in Numancia, Aklan on the same day.

Go, who chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, vowed to continue supporting the establishment of more Super Health Centers across the country, citing how they can significantly help reduce hospital occupancy rates and bring crucial basic health services closer to those in need especially in the grassroots.

Services offered in Super Health Centers include database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray and ultrasound), pharmacy and ambulatory surgical unit. Other available services are eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) service, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation center and telemedicine, where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done.

Apart from Numancia and Kalibo, seven more Super Health Centers are expected to be established in Aklan, particularly in Ibajay, Balete, Batan, Malay, Nabas, New Washington, and Tangalan – the last one's groundbreaking having been also personally witnessed by Go later that day.

Some 307 SHCs were funded in 2022 through Go’s initiative. He likewise earlier successfully pushed for sufficient funds for the centers in this year’s Health Facilities Enhancement Program of the Department of Health.

The senator then expressed his gratitude towards the local officials led by Gov. Joen Miraflores, First District Rep. Carlito Marquez, Second District Rep. Nonong Haresco, and Numancia Mayor Toto Templonuevo for extending necessary support to their constituents and to the establishment of Super Health Centers.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony in Numancia, Go led a relief operation where he and his team handed out grocery packs, vitamins, meals, masks, shirts, and umbrellas to 500 typhoon victims in the town.

The senator likewise provided bicycles, cellular phones, shoes, watches, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select individuals.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended financial support to each affected household to help with their daily needs as they recover from the typhoon.

The senator also encouraged those with health concerns to apply for medical assistance from the Malasakit Center at Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital in Kalibo.

Senator Go principally authored and sponsored Republic Act No. 11463, otherwise known as the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, to ensure that particularly poor and indigent patients have easier access to quality healthcare services. Currently, there are 154 Malasakit Centers nationwide.

Still in line with his continued efforts to bolster the progress of Numancia, Go, as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, supported the construction of an evacuation center and the rehabilitation of a slaughterhouse in the town.

Earlier that day, Go also visited the province of Iloilo where he celebrated Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo City, and led a relief operation for tornado victims in Oton.

He likewise attended and delivered a short speech during the Ati-atihan Coronation Night in Ibajay, Aklan.
