The cause of the death of a Grade 10 student, whose decomposing body was discovered on January 18 in a vacant lot in Barangay San Isidro, General Santos City, is still unknown to police authorities.

Investigators have not yet determined if Jazdel Gabayeron, 16, a student at General Santos Municipal SPED Integrated School, committed suicide or was killed, according to city police director Colonel Joemar Alexis Yap.

The child was accompanied to school by her father on January 12 before her disappearance was reported.

In Purok Malipayon, Barangay San Isidro, General Santos City, her body was discovered inside a comfort room of an abandoned house in a state of decomposition.

A bloodstained .38-caliber pistol was found on the victim's body by the police.

Yap claimed that because the victim's autopsy was delayed because the victim's medical examiner was apparently on leave for school, the cause of the victim's death could not yet be determined by the Philippine National Police's Regional Forensic Unit.

Yap claimed that in the absence of an autopsy result, investigators would find it difficult to determine whether the person had been slain or had committed suicide.

The National Bureau of Investigation had already been asked to perform the autopsy by the victim's relatives.

The victim's relatives had previously given hints that the victim might have killed herself because her father is said to have owned the gun found at the crime scene.

The victim's father, Adone Gabayeron, asserted that his gun, which was kept in the cabinet, was gone after his daughter failed to return home on January 12.
