"I hope I did not disappoint, "such was Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr's message to outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte less than two months before his stint in the Department of Foreign Affairs ended.
Locsin expressed his sentiment on Twitter as he represented Duterte at the United States-Association of Southeast Asian Nations Special Summit in Washington D.C.
The outgoing Foreign Affairs secretary said he could never thank Duterte enough for his appointment, "I have never been more honored and more challenged," Locsin said.
Locsin was tasked to head the DFA in 2018 after the Foreign Affairs Sec. Alan Peter Cayetano filed his certificate of candidacy for the 2019 elections.
He also said he could not compare himself to a leader such as Pres. Duterte.
"In a gathering of leaders, I was but the shadow of my leader. When Duterte leaves, his shadow follows him," he said.
Locsin was also chosen as a member of the Presidential Transition Committee, which will ensure a smooth transfer of power to the next administration.
