Just a week removed from a botched W60 single’s bid, Alex Eala inched closer to a doubles crown on Wednesday night after punching a ticket to the semifinal of the W25 Open Generali Ciudad del Palma de Rio in Spain.

Eala and her former opponent Marina Bassols Ribera took a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Marta Espinas of Spain and Ashley Lahey of the United States in the quarterfinal contest at Polideportivo Municipal el Pandero.

Eala and her partner has so far lived up to their No. 4 seeding, breezing past the Spanish duo of Adriana Cortes and Patricia Carretero, 6-0, 6-0, in the opening round.

Eala and Bassols Ribera clashed in last week’s W60 VIII Open ITF Arcadis Brezo Osuna earlier this month, with the latter denying the Filipina teen sensation the grand prize in the final clash.

They now hope to sustain their fine form when they take on Valeria Savinykh of Russia and Fanni Stollar of Hungary for a right to play in the finalé.

Savinykh and Stollar are the showcase’s No. 1-seeded pair.

Eala is also set to see action in the W25’s singles play this Friday, where she continues her bid against Jessika Ponchet of Franche, the tournament’s No. 2 seed.

The Pinoy bet is off to a promising start in that side of the action, taking a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jimar Gonzales of Chile.
