Gilas women dismantle Indonesia in SEAG opener

Gilas Pilipinas women’s basketball team began their Southeast Asian Games title defense with a 93-77 beating over Indonesia on Monday at the Thanh Tri Gymnasium.

Gilas veteran Afril Bernardino led the team with 16 points, nine rebounds, and four steals, while Janine Pontejos chipped in 15 points for the women’s team.

Camille Clarin and Gabi Bade scored 11 markers apiece for Gilas Women.

“They played so hard. What can I ask for. That’s what we’ve been working for the last couple of months. Hopefully, we can sustain that,” said Gilas women’s head coach Pat Aquino.

Gilas Women began its onslaught against Indonesia in the third period when they broke away with a 32-19 lead.

They will face the 2019 SEA Games silver medalist Thailand on Wednesday.

“We hope to get the momentum going into the other games, especially against Thailand,” said Aquino.
