A Grade 7 student was fatally stabbed inside the Culiat High School in Quezon City on Friday morning by a “jealous” classmate, officials from the Quezon City Police District said.

Police reported that the 15-year-old suspect was detained at the Salaam Compound in Barangay Culiat, while the 13-year-old student died while being taken to the New Era Hospital.

According to investigation, the suspected stabbing happened at 5:45 in the morning. Inside the school, the suspect hastily ran away in an unidentified route after witnessing the victim fall to the ground covered in blood.

In the meantime, the Department of Education-National Capital Region expressed its "great sadness and upset" over the reported stabbing incident in a statement.

“We are deeply saddened and disturbed that violent incidents such as this happened among our students inside the school, which is supposed to be a safe place,” the DepEd-NCR said.

According to the Quezon City Schools Division Office, pupils who observed the incident had already received psychological first aid.

The Schools Division Office of Quezon City and Culiat High School, on behalf of the DepEd-NCR, said that they would provide support to the victim's family.

On the other hand, the Regional Interim Learners Rights and Protection Section will develop suitable intervention strategies for the CICL student and support his continuation of education through alternative means in collaboration with the Division Child Protection Unit and the School Child Protection Committee.

The DepEd regional office also urged parents, students, teachers, support staff, and other interested parties to collaborate in bringing up and educating kids to become law-abiding, dependable community members.
