To say Jamie Malonzo is excited for his first-ever Gilas Pilipinas stint would be a terrible understatement.

He is over the moon about the idea of representing the country.

“It feels good, man,” the NorthPort standout said during an interview with One Sports’ The Game.

“I say this all the time: It’s really like a dream come true,” he went on.

Malonzo is one of the pros tapped for Gilas’ two key games in the August Fiba window. He joins 22 other players who will train with Utah Jazz star Jordan Clarkson.

“So far, practice has been great,” Malonzo said. “We’ve been grinding and learning together as a team, so hopefully we can make something shake soon.”

The Filipino-American forward was recently cleared by Fiba to play as a local for the Nationals. He joins Meralco’s Chris Newsome as the only newcomers in the talent pool that will also pilot a roster that will use Clarkson as the cornerstone—a unit that will see action in the World Cup here next year.

The Philippines, 2-2 in the World Cup Asian Qualifiers, plays Asia Cup runner up Lebanon on Aug. 25 and the host Saudi Arabia on the 29th at Mall of Arena in Pasay City.
