Rhenz Abando set to win NCAA MVP, Rookie of the Year

Letran's Rhenz Abando is set to be crowned as the Most Valuable Player in the NCAA Season 97 men's basketball tournament.

The 6-foot-2 athletic winger averaged 15.73 points, 6.36 rebounds, 1.73 assists, and 1.27 blocks.

Abando will be the first MVP to come off the bench the entire season.

He is also the first Letran player to be named MVP since Raymond Almazan in 2013.

The 24-year old will also take home the Rookie of the Year award.

NCAA considers transferees from other collegiate leagues as rookies, with Abando playing in UAAP with the University of Santo Tomas.

Joining Abando in the Mythical Five are his Letran teammate Jeo Ambohot, Arellano center Justin Arana, San Sebastian big man JM Calma, and St. Benilde center Will Gozum.

The individual awards will be handed out this Sunday before Game Two of the Letran-Mapua Finals.
