
SEA Games: Team PH’s Iniong, Claude win gold claim gold in kickboxing

Gina Iniong and Jean Claude Saclag delivered two gold medals for Team Philippines in the kickboxing tournament of the 31st Southeast Asian Games, Friday at the Bac Ninh Multipurpose Stadium in Bac Ninh, Vietnam.
Iniong first conquered Waraporn Jaiteang Waraporn of Thailand, 2-1, in the women’s low kick -60kg final.
She previously won the women’s kick light 55 kg event in 2019 back in the Philippines.
Saclag won his second SEAG title after edging Chaleamlap Santidongsakun of Thailand, 2-1, in the men’s low kick -63kg final.
Both Iniong and Saclag added the Philippines’ gold medal count to five as of this writing.
Female kickboxers added four silver medals to the medal haul.
Claudine Veloso (3-0 decision vs Amanda La in women’s low kick -52 kg event) and Gretel de Paz (3-0 decision vs Diandra Ariesta in women’s full contact -56 kg class) fell short to their Indonesian foes, while Zephanya Ngaya (3-0 decision vs Huynh Vang in women’s full contact -56 kg) and Renalyn Daquel (3-0 decision vs Nga Nguyen in women’s full contact -48kg) absorbed defeats against hometown bets of Vietnam.
