The University of the East (UE) mourned the passing of a senior high school student from the Caloocan campus, after jumping from its building on Monday morning.

“The student of the Caloocan Campus was promptly rushed to the nearby Manila Central University Hospital, and his immediate family members immediately notified. Valiant efforts and attempts to resuscitate him were fully rendered until it was clear that he had passed on,” UE President and Chief Academic Officer Zossimo Battad said.

UE then investigated the incident internally in cooperation with the Philippine National Police’s Caloocan officers, and declared that the investigation clearly showed “the absence of any foul play or disregard by any other individual.”

“The entire UE community is in mourning in the wake of this tragic loss of a young life, and we enjoin everyone to pray for his eternal repose. We kindly request that the privacy of his family and loved ones be respected at this difficult time, and that no one share any unfounded information about the student and his truly untimely demise,” Battad added.

The management of UE likewise intends to provide support for the bereaved family and reminded its students that help within the university is “a message, a call, a text or a visit away.”

Additionally, Department of Education (DepEd) Spokesperson Michael Poa said in a Viber message that the agency instructed the Schools Division Office concerned to coordinate with UE for any further assistance needed.

“We have instructed the Schools Division Office concerned to coordinate with the University of the East for any assistance that the parties may need. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the learner, and join the request that their privacy be respected during this difficult time,” Poa said.
